SkinPen: What is Microneedling and Why You Can't Do It at Home.

If you have made it on this page, then we're guessing that you want to learn more about SkinPen!

We're here to educate you on what SkinPen is, how it's beneficial, and why you should NOT be microneedling at home!

What the heck is SkinPen?!

SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device on the market and is clinically proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles of the neck and acne scars in patients ages 22 and older. In as few as three minimally invasive treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your appearance and step out with confidence.

How does microneedling work?

When it's done by a professional, it creates thousands of microchannels that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimizing cellular damage. This rejuvenates your skin from the inside out. The result is effective remodeling of scar tissue while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact.

Grabbing a microneedling dermaroller to do at home will NOT give you the same results as an in-clinic treatment.

Dermarollers are just really picking away at the dead skin cells. It's not producing any collagen. These home devices - particularly ones which penetrate the skin as deep as 2.5mm - can lead to infection and damage to the skin and should be avoided.

Another device that isn't so safe for you is a microneedling device such as "Dr. Pen". Although these penetrate deeply, this can cause skin damage such as scarring, infection, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, etc. You may put too much pressure and this also causes scarring and bruising.

It's best to see a professional when doing these kinds of treatments. If your goals are to minimize fine lines/wrinkles and smooth out scarring, then SkinPen could be the perfect treatment for you.
